Year 5 Turing 2025 - 2026

Mrs Foy

Class Teachers: Miss Newell

Support Staff: Miss Kinder

Turing.jpegOur class is named after Alan Turing. Alan Turing was a British mathematician. He made major contributions to the fields of mathematics, computer science, and artificial intelligence. He worked for the British government during World War II, when he succeeded in breaking the secret code Germany used to communicate.

In 2019 the Bank of England announced that Turing would be featured on the new 50-pound banknote.

We will be learning about some exciting topics in Year 5. First of all, we will be learning about Biomes in Geography and Earth and Space in Science. As the year progresses, we will learn about such topics as the Vikings, Asia- Mountains, Volcanos and Earthquakes and Life Cycles.

Important Information:

  • In Year 5 children will receive weekly English or maths homework. This will be given out on Fridays and will be collected in on Thursday.
  • Spellings will be given out on Fridays (paper copy) and tested on the following Thursday.
  • Children will also have access to Spelling Shed, where they can practise their set weekly spellings along with other spelling rules and patterns.
  • Children should practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstars. 15 minutes a week is recommended.
  • Children should be reading a school reading book, at least one a week. Any reading at home should be recorded in the yellow reading records.
  • On PE days children should come into school in their PE kit, including Wednesdays when they go swimming.
  • Please ensure that all items of your child’s clothing are clearly labelled (including PE kit).

We hope that your child has a fantastic time in Year 5.

Kind Regards

Miss Newell & the Year 5 team
