Welcome to Stephenson Class!

Paul Stephenson OBE (born 6 May 1937) is a community worker, activist and long-time campaigner for civil rights for the British African-Caribbean community in Bristol, England. As a young social worker, in 1963 Stephenson led a boycott of the Bristol Omnibus Company, protesting against its refusal to employ Black or Asian drivers or conductors. After a 60-day boycott supported by thousands of Bristolians, the company revoked its colour bar in August. In 1964 Stephenson achieved national fame when he refused to leave a public house until he was served. His campaigns were instrumental in paving the way for the first Race Relations Act, in 1965. 

“Every generation has a duty to fight against racism, otherwise it will find its way into our country and into our homes. Addressing this challenge is our duty if we wish to seek a happy and prosperous existence."

Important information:

• On PE days, children should come into school wearing their PE kits (white t-shirt, black shorts/joggers and black pumps/trainers). Please ensure all items of your children’s clothes are clearly labelled.
• If you wish your child to walk to and/or from school without an adult, then you must sign our walking home policy here and send it into school. If that is the case then they are permitted to bring a mobile phone if you wish. Phones should be switched off when they arrive on the school premises and should not be switched back on until they leave the premises. Phones will be kept in a box in the classroom for the duration of the school day.
• A meeting about the National SATs tests will be held in the new year. The tests will take place in the week beginning 13th May 2024.
• You will receive regular updates about your child’s learning in school via their Seesaw account and it’s great to receive your feedback too.

Homework:

• Children will have homework to submit at the end of each half term in order to promote their learning and creativity in history, geography, science or RE. This will be sent home at the start of each half term and returned in the final week of each half term.
• Along with their homework, children will also receive their weekly spellings on every Friday and will be tested the following Thursday.
• Reading is of high priority and children are expected to read regularly. This can be any form of reading: school reading book, online Bug Club books, comics, library books etc. All books read should be recorded as they will count towards a 100 reads award.
• Please encourage your child to continue using Times Tables Rock Stars. Being able to recall multiplication facts at speed will help with multiplication and division calculations and also in a range of different areas of maths.
