Welcome to Lowry Class!
About L.S. Lowry
Laurence Stephen Lowry was an artist who lived in England and was inspired by his surroundings and the events in his life. He was born in 1887, and his family first lived in an area outside of the city. However, they eventually moved to the industrial town of Pendlebury in Greater Manchester.
At first, Lowry hated this new home. He did not like seeing all of the factories, smoke, and people bustling about. But, the more he lived in the city, the more it began to grow on him. He was mesmerized by the activity, and he started painting the different images he saw when he was just 15 years old.
Painting was something that he enjoyed, so he went to study at the Salford School of Art.
Like many artists, Lowry did not make enough money as a painter. He took a job as a rent collector but kept it a secret because he didn't want people to think he was an unsuccessful artist.
Unsuccessful? His paintings sell for millions of pounds today!
Welcome to the Year 3 Lowry class page!
We have been named after the wonderful British artist L.S Lowry. He is well known for his paintings of matchstick men and matchstick cats and dogs. I wonder if our attempts at drawing like L.S Lowry will bring in the millions.
We are looking forward to having a fun-filled year with lots of new and exciting activities and experiences that will motivate, engage and develop your child’s learning and promote their wellbeing, starting with work on Marvellous Manchester and the artwork of L.S.Lowry.
