ROWLING

Class Teachers: Ms Campbell & Mrs Wardleworth

Welcome to Rowling class! We have chosen to name ourselves after one of the most successful British authors of all time, J. K. Rowling, who created the popular and critically acclaimed Harry Potter series. Her novels have sold more than 500 million copies worldwide and won numerous awards, as well as being adapted to screen in a series of blockbuster films. Through her wonderfully imaginative writing, J. K. Rowling has inspired and encouraged people both young and old to take pleasure from reading, as well as providing a strong role model for women. She has also contributed significant sums to charities, such as Anti-Poverty and Multiple Sclerosis Research, and has written three companion volumes in aid of charity: Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in aid of Comic Relief, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard in aid of her children’s charity Lumos. We hope to take lots of inspiration from J. K. Rowling throughout Year 5!

Important Information:

  • Children will have a Learning Journal project to submit at the end of each half term in order to promote their topic work in History, Geography or Science. This will be set on Seesaw.
  • Children will also receive their weekly spellings on Seesaw every Friday, which will then be tested the following Thursday.
  • Pupils are expected to read five times a week, through both Bug Club and their home reading book. Reading records will be checked at least once a week during your child’s Guided Reading session and all books read (including those read for pleasure) should be recorded by your child in their reading comments as this will count towards their 100 reads.
  • Please encourage your child to continue using Times Tables as this will help to develop accuracy, speed and confidence in recalling multiplication and division facts, as well as other areas of the maths curriculum.
  • On PE days, children should come into school wearing their PE kits (white t-shirt, black shorts/joggers and pumps/trainers depending on weather conditions). Please ensure all items of your children’s clothes are clearly labelled.

You can catch up with some of our class activities on Seesaw and it’s great to receive your feedback on these activities. We look forward to an exciting year ahead and hope that your child has a fantastic time in Year 5!
